Anyone Can Attach A PDF And Call It A Certificate. Only One Kind Can Be Checked Against The Lab That Issued It.
A certificate is only as good as your ability to check it. Most research compound listings carry a document called a Certificate of Analysis. Very few of those documents can actually be verified against the lab that supposedly wrote them.
A PDF is trivial to produce. Anyone can format a document to look like a laboratory report, put a number on it, and attach it to a listing. The question that actually separates suppliers is not whether a certificate exists, but whether it can be checked against anything outside the seller's own control.
Catalyst's own position on this, stated plainly on its About page: "Compounds get repackaged from overseas suppliers. COAs get moved, edited, or invented. The researcher running the experiment is the one who pays for it."
That is a real problem in this category, and it is also exactly the problem a verifiable certificate is built to solve.

Catalyst's compounds are manufactured in its own Texas facility, then sent to Horizon Analytical, a U.S. laboratory that Catalyst does not own, for testing. The lab issues the certificate. Catalyst publishes it, and the same record is checkable on Horizon Analytical's own site.
A certificate the seller cannot edit is a different kind of document than one the seller wrote.
2Why domestic-only sourcing matters here
A supply chain that repackages imported product adds a step where the documentation can drift from what is actually in the vial. Catalyst states it manufactures, tests, and ships entirely within the United States, with no overseas sourcing and no blended supply chains.
Fewer steps between manufacturing and your door means fewer places for the paperwork to stop matching the product.
3What "independent" actually has to mean
A lab that a supplier owns, or pays outside of an arm's-length relationship, can still call itself independent. The distinction that matters is whether you, the buyer, can go check the result on the lab's own records, separate from anything the seller published.
Independent means checkable by you, not just claimed by the seller.

- Is the testing lab named? "Third-party tested" with no lab named is not a checkable claim.
- Can you find that lab's own record for your lot? If the only copy exists as a PDF from the seller, it is not independently verifiable.
- Does the supplier say where it manufactures? Domestic, overseas, and repackaged-import are three different supply chains with three different risk profiles.
- Does the lot number on the vial match the one on the certificate? A product-level document is not proof about the batch in your hand.

Never thought to check whether the lab on a certificate could actually be found independently. Most of the ones I've seen can't.
Same. Looked up Horizon Analytical directly and the batch record was right there, separate from anything Catalyst controls.
